Lawsuits against online casinos examined by European Commission
After the Maltese Bill 55 became known, German law firms reacted quickly and lodged a complaint with the European Commission. The reason for the complaint is the business field of reimbursement of gambling losses caused by online gambling on casino sites and sports betting providers without a valid gambling license in Germany.
Economy Minister Silvio Schembri has presented Bill 55 to prevent future civil lawsuits before Maltese courts and to protect online casinos and betting providers based and licensed in Malta. The Maltese Parliament passed the law quickly, making it more difficult to enforce claims from abroad in Maltese courts.
